The New and Improved 10 Commandments of Networking

December 1st, 2011 by Dave

As with everything that we do, this has evolved over the years.

Because we don’t believe in revisionist history, you can always still find the original version over at http://www.detroitnet.org/index.php/68/the-ten-commandments-of-networking/ if you’re so inclined…but this version’s been updated.

Why?  Because it needed to be.  It’s been two and a half years since that first version was written, and things have changed since then.  We’ve also been doing some speaking engagements using this as the foundation of our presentation and discussion flow, and we’ve gotten some great feedback from people.  And…well, we also noticed that we might’ve been a little snarky about some personal things going on at the time the original was published, and so we decided it was time for an update to the version here on the site as well…

Don’t Be That Guy – The Bad Recruiter

February 24th, 2011 by Dave

“Every man should have the last word when arguing with his wife.  In fact, he should have the last two words.  And they should always be ‘Yes, dear’ or ‘I’m sorry’, trust me on this one.” – Advice from my grandfather

“It’s only a mistake if you do the same thing twice.  You get to call the first one a learning experience.” – Andrew M., a partner at a firm I once worked at

Getting involved with our networking events is easy – “show up”.

As far as the jobs…no, you don’t have to pay anything to post jobs.  We’re trying to help people, and so trying to make money off of that would just be lame.

As far as posting them and getting them into our site and out to our members, well, let’s take a little walk-through to make it as easy as possible…

Lessons From A Child’s Toy

May 18th, 2009 by Dave

Inspiration comes from many places.

I’d like you to imagine a standard workday.  A day like every other day.  A day when the sound of the alarm clock is akin to nails being dragged across a chalkboard.  Not just any chalkboard either…the world’s longest chalkboard.  A day after a night when you decided that sure, you’d go ahead and catch up on a little Tivo viewing…and then got sucked into just one more episode…which turned out to be the last episode before the season finale, which of course meant that you then had to sit through the season finale, too.  A day when waking up is absolutely, positively the very last thing that you want to be doing…but you’ve got that damnable meeting at 8:30 this morning, and so you’d better get your butt rolling.
